THE PARADOX OF KNOWLEDGE

Dale Calvert

I admit it; I am a tape, seminar, & video training junkie. During the evening when I work in my office at home, I always have a video tape going.

About 20% of the videos make it upstairs. Which simply means I want to re-watch the video and take notes in my journal. I go through the same process with audio cassettes.

I understand that repetition is the key to learning. If we listen to something one time we forget 50% of what we have heard in 24 hours and 90% within 30 days.

REPETITION IS THE MOTHER OF LEARNING!

The other way we learn is through emotion.

It is not very often that we hear, watch or witness something that strikes us at a deep emotional level. However when we do, we are likely to have this event burnt into our subconscious minds & memory.

Do you remember specifically where you were and what you were doing...

The day Ronald Regan was shot?

What about John F. Kennedy?

The day the stock market crashed?

When we bombed Bagdad, the first time?

When Princes Di died?

I don't think you will ever forget September 11th!

When I watch a video, listen to a cassette or attend a seminar, that is what I am looking for. That emotional, AH Ha experience. I want something to hit me so emotionally and profoundly that I must immediately add the concept, idea, method, or technology to my day-to-day marketing activities.

When I first witnessed the Orbitalk technology a few months ago, I had this type of reaction, which ultimately lead to me buying the company.

I know that this technology will have a more positive effect on our industry than anything since the videotape! (http://dale.webseminarsonline.com)

I am currently going through a set of 15 videos from the Las Vegas Internet Marketing Super Conference. On video 6, it happened. A concept was explained by Robert Allen, that was a major AH HA for me. He calls it the Paradox of Knowledge.

Stay with me.

Over the years there have been multiple subjects that I have decided to focus on and learn as much about as I possibly could.

Those of you that have been reading this ezine for years have heard me say many times, that anybody can learn anything until they decide to.

A few years ago, before we rolled out our "Confessions of a Network Marketing Millionaire" video series I spent 90 days learning everything I could about writing ad copy.

I ordered several audio and video courses and spend a little over 3 months emerced in this information.

We then put together a direct mail, postcard, and fax broadcasting campaign. The results, the series became one of the top selling courses in MLM history.

I am not a copy-writing expert by any means. Many people understand much more about copyrighting than I do. But I do know more about copyrighting than 90% of the marketers within the industry.

I believe anyone who amerces them self in any subject can put themselves in a situation where they know more about the subject than 90% of the population, just because they are willing to focus.

"FORMAL EDUCATION MAKES YOU A LIVING, IF YOU BECOME SELF EDUCATED YOU CREATE A FORTUNE" Jim Rohn

I have done this with many different subjects over the years.

I spent a weekend and about 12 hours doing nothing, but studying and reading everything I could about Internet Banner Advertising.

Yes there are experts that know much more about this subject than I ever care to know. But while the industry average for banner advertising is 0.08% click through our banners consistently have over 4% click through rates.

I could give you example after example how I have used this "Amerce Yourself" concept throughout the years to gain a good working knowledge on a wide variety of marketing subjects.

THE POINT I AM TRYING TO MAKE IS SIMPLY THIS:

There comes a time when YOU MUST TAKE ACTION!

Knowledge WITHOUT ACTION LEADS TO SELF-DELUSION!

I remember Earl Nightgale talking about the one person that knew more about sales than anyone he had ever met.

Was this gentleman working as a million dollar sales professional in corporate America?

No, he was a barber, giving $6.00 haircuts!

The more knowledge you gain without taking action... makes it harder and harder to EVER BE ABLE TO PUT THAT KNOWLEDGE INTO ACTION.

Again, Knowledge without action leads to SELF DELUSION.

Now, lets get into the Paradox of Knowledge concept. Anytime we start to learn any new method, concept, or idea, our brain, ( for example purposes is the size of a pea), I guess that is where the term Pea Brain comes from.

As we start feeding our minds with information on a specific topic our brain cell patterns start to expand as our knowledge base and awareness about the subject increases.

Eventually (for example purposes) our brain increases in size to the size of a walnut. Scientifically, the brain cell patterns about the particular subject increase.

HOWEVER, THE MORE WE LEARN ABOUT ANY SUBJECT THE MORE WE REALIZE HOW MUCH WE DON'T KNOW.

Please get this concept. Think about this. Haven't you experienced this throughout your life? As you learn to play a piano or other musical instrument, it seems the more you learn, the more you realize how much more you need to learn.

So as a network marketer, what do you do? You continue to go to the seminars, listen to the conference calls, watch the videos, and listen to the cassette programs. YOU KNOW YOU NEED MORE KNOWLEDGE.

Again, the more knowledge we gain, the more our awareness increases, the more we realize that there is still a lot we don't know. This is a natural, built in human reaction.

You can call this state being conscious of your incompetence. So as we learn more, eventually our brain grows to the size of an apple. However THE MORE WE LEARN, THE MORE WE REALIZE HOW MUCH MORE WE NEED TO KNOW.

I remember Jim Rohn speaking at one of his weekend seminars making comments about the number of Cadillac's, Jaguar's, and Mercedes that were in the parking lot.

"Self made millionaires that have to get to the seminar!"

I recently attended a seminar in Florida that cost 10,000.00 per person. Most of the room was self-made millionaires, who took 3 days out of their life because they know, THEY NEED MORE KNOWLEDGE.

Do you see the paradox? The more you know, the more you realize you need to know.

I remember making a statement from stage to a group of 5000 distributors. I said something like...

YOU ARE THE BEST TRAINED LEAST PRODUCTIVE DISTRIBUTORS IN MLM HISTORY.

As soon as I said it, I wish I hadn't. The passion of the moment took over. Even though the statement was 100 percent true.

What I said, and what I meant was two totally different ideas.

These people were salt of the earth. Tremendous learners that were heavy into self-development & personal growth.

Within that organization I had hundreds of downline members that were earning $500 - $5.000 per month.

Literally hundreds of these associates had a stronger awareness, and understanding of the MLM Industry than 80% of the successful marketers in the entire industry who are making $100,000 plus a year.

I understood the challenge. I just didn't understand the solution. I KNEW that they really had no idea, how much they already knew. There was still a thirst and hunger for knowledge. You see this is a natural built in human reality, it is the way we ALL process information.

Do you see the paradox?

The more we know, that more we need to know.

So what is the answer?

I believe AWARENESS of this human reality is the first step.

So when is enough knowledge, enough? NEVER. It is phycologically impossible to ever be enough! Do you get this?

THE SECRET IS TO LEARN TO ACT ON WHAT YOU LEARN KNOWING THAT YOU DON'T KNOW IT ALL.

Let me repeat that.

THE SECRET IS TO LEARN TO ACT ON WHAT OUT LEARN KNOWING THAT YOU DON'T KNOW IT ALL.

Just learn to DO, WHAT YOU KNOW TO DO, with the knowledge base that you have.

Most people are afraid.

I am here to tell you, go forward. MAKE MISTAKES! LEARN! THEN KEEP MOVING FORWARD!

Get out of your comfort zone and just GO FOR IT!

Most people self-image is such that feel like such a failure that It becomes paralyzing for them to grow, learn, develop and TAKE NEW ACTIONS AND TRY NEW THINGS.

Failure is never a permanent state! Most self-made millionaires I have met have gone broke at least once in their life!

YOU SIMPLY MUST PERSIST.

I believe that everyone is born with special God given, gifts & talents and have a design purpose for their life.

If you PERSIST, over time I believe your talents, purpose, and gifts will be revealed to you. You must persist in order to discover them, is are just the way it has been set up.

Personally, failure has never bothered me. I am not going to say I like it, I don't. However I understand SUCCESS is Impossible with Failure. I learned along ago:

"I NEVER FEW FAILURE AS FAILURE, ONLY AS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE AND A CHANCE TO GET BETTER AT MY CRAFT"

As Zig Ziglar says, "The only difference between a big shot and a little shot, is a big shot is a little shot that kept shooting."

I have failed more than any marketer I know. Throughout my career I have watched so many talented people analyze until they are paralyzed and unable to TAKE ACTION.

NOW I UNDERSTAND, THIS IS A NATURAL LAW OF HUMAN NATURE.

AS HUMAN BEINGS, THE MORE WE KNOW, THE MORE WE REALIZE WHAT WE DON'T KNOW!

This tricking our mind into making us think we need to have more knowledge before we can take massive action is extremely thought provoking.

I hope you understand now, as I do. THIS IS NOT TRUE.

THE SECRET IS TO:

Move forward; take action on WHAT YOU DO KNOW, knowing that you DON'T KNOW IT ALL & you never Will.

Life, in and of itself is an ongoing LEARNING EXPERIENCE.

SO NOW YOU KNOW, PSYCHOLOGICALLY, WHAT HAS BEEN HOLDING YOU BACK!

Please, for the sake of yourself, your family, your downline, & your business. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

CHARGE FORWARD DOING WHAT YOU KNOW TO DO!

As self-made billionaire W. Clement Stone said.

"If you have nothing to lose by trying and a great deal to gain if successful, by all means try, DO IT NOW!"

The next time you find yourself feeling inadequate, like you don't know enough. Stop and tell yourself the truth. Remind yourself of all the training you have already had.

Understand YOU ARE WELL trained, your prospect or potential customer is not.

It is different on the inside of our industry looking out, than it is on the outside looking in. Don't forget where you started. Take the time to remind yourself how far you have already Come!

YOU NO LONGER HAVE AN EXCUSE FOR NOT TAKING MASSIVE ACTION.

YOU ARE NOW AWARE OF WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON IN YOUR MIND PSYCHOLOGICALLY.

DEAL WITH THIS NATURAL HIDDEN INSIGHT INTO HUMAN NATURE...

AND GO FOR IT!

I will talk with you soon, and I appreciate your support.

Have a great March!
